Gather Readers in Swarms: Blog Marketing Magic

Many people with blogs get disheartened after a few weeks or months when their blog fails to attract thousands of readers.

It is a real shame, because if bloggers followed a few simple blog marketing steps, then they would probably find that there is a willing audience just dying to read about most topics.

What the easy and simple things that work like magic? Let's explore some basic time-tested blog marketing tactics, and see if they are really too much for you.

Blog about a niche: The world doesn't really need another 'vanity blog' about what you had for breakfast. Unless you are a super-model good looking teenage girl who wants to put a lot of photos on your blog, then you are probably going to have a hard time getting noticed. If you already have a vanity blog and are wondering why you are not getting traffic, then you need to know that the vanity blog market is totally saturated. Consider starting or changing your blog to some other topic - an interest or a hobby for example.

Next, you need to start posting to relevant forums. Put the URL of the blog in your forum signature (don't spam forums saying "look at my blog"). If you just join in the conversation naturally, then people will get curious and you will get a few more readers. If the forum you post in is also to do with a similar topic to your blog then you will probably get repeat readers from it!

The forums to get involved in are those with high page rank (backlinks from these are worth more), have a few thousand or more members, and have a lot to do with your blog's topic. How to find them? Google! Search: "keyword"+forum. The top forums should pop right up.

Another trick involves trackbacks and pingbacks. Mention other people's blogs, and link to them with trackbacks and pingbacks enabled. What this does is notify the blog owners that they'd been linked to- and now they're going to come and see what you said. Some of their readers will, too... yep! that means even more readers. Put this on turbo: target more popular blogs and do this- that means a LOT more readers.

Comment on other people's blogs as much as you can. Don't spam- take the time to read the post first. Most of the time, you can leave a backlink to your own blog. Especially if you have something good to say, people do follow these links to your blog (again, search engines too). It is best to target blogs relevant to your own (search them out just like above with forums). This way, you can enterprise on the targeted traffic it generates, and you will get repeat visitors.

Don't forget to keep putting fresh posts every day. This isn't about search engines, it's about keeping the readers you have coming back, while attracting more. They won't return to read the same thing over and over.
